Hello and Welcome Thank you for visiting S.U.N. International This is a service user network covering Mental Health Issues. This site covers England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Jersey C.I.and will be run by volunteer service users/carers and survivors of mental health services. for service users/carers or survivors of mental health services. Our aims are to exchange and share information on issues surrounding mental health well being, including welfare rights/employment/voluntary work/service user/carer involvement and much more. We hope that by sharing information in this way we can be of help to all concerned in the issues of mental health. "UNITED" "WE ARE A STRONG VOICE" FUNDING FOR 2005/2006 This site was able to be up and running in 2003 by being
funded by NIMHE (NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR MENTAL HEALTH ENGLAND). ******************************************************************* SUN INTERNATIONAL, THE DAWNING OF A NEW ERA; On Friday 18th July the sun shone at Marjons (The College of St Marks and St Johns) to herald the official launching of this website run by volunteer service users, carers and survivors, for service users, carers and survivors. The day started at 11-00a.m. with refreshments and networking, service members came from Liverpool, Leeds, Rotherham, Walsall, Somerset, Various parts of Devon and Cornwall, Stratford in London and of course Plymouth. Many people from the Plymouth Primary Care Trust and Mental Health Partnership came along. Anne McLeod of Plymouth and Stella Spragg from Walsall the two Co-ordinators started the proceedings at 11-30a.m. with information about how the site started and where it is now. They were assisted by Martin Maunder who gave a visual tour of the site. A delicious buffet lunch was then provided and people had the chance of more networking. After lunch a group of young people from Music Zone provided some brilliant entertainment, and at 2-30p/m/ Mr Paddy Cooney, The Director of N.I.M.H.E. (National Institute for Mental Health)- The organisation who have funded Sun International, gave a short talk and then cut the ribbon to officially launch the site. He also presented certificates to those people who have assisted us. Soon after that it was time to say our goodbyes with transport arriving to take people back to the train station after what had been a BRILLIANT DAY. SUN INTERNATIONALS 1ST BIRTHDAY IN WALSALL ANNE AND STELLA (COORDINATORS OF SUN INTERNATIONAL) HELD SUN, S 1ST BIRTHDAY IN WALSALL ON WEDNESDAY 14TH JULY IN WALSALL. Mr Dave Martin Chair West Midlands NIMHE Steering Group, Executive Director- Health and Social Care and Supported Housing, Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council, was there representing NIMHE. Mr Martin gave a small talk to all that attended followed by a short talk by Anne McLeod, and Stella Spragg. Anne and Stella talked about where the site is at this moment in time and what they wanted to achieve. They put it to all that attended to give them what else they wanted on the site, the list was endless. Delegates from Plymouth PCT, Jersey, Wales, Luton, Leeds, Leicester Wolverhampton, Walsall all had brilliant ideas for the site. At the end of the discussion all delegates met in the garden of Broadway North Resource Centre with labels to tie to balloons with their personal details on, and a message for the finder. After a count down from 5 everyone let go of their balloons, a sight not to have been missed. Then after a brilliant lunch and cutting of the two CHOCOLATE birthday cakes delegates were taken to train stations and airports for their safe journey home The day was a BRILLIANT SUCSESS and everyone went away knowing that they had met new friends and knowing a lot more of what happens in different parts of the country concerning Mental Health. Anne and Stella would like to thank everyone that came along to Sun Internationals
